The exhibition of paintings by Antanas Žmuidzinavičius Nostalgic reality from the cycle “Steps of Lithuanian art”
Antanas Žmuidzinavičius (1876–1966) is a prominent personality of Lithuania – artist, educator, public figure, collector, organizer of the first Lithuanian art exhibition. He was a chairman of Lithuanian Art Society, head of Lithuanian Riflemen's Union, a man who actively participated in the important historical events of the 20th century.
In the Lithuanian art history of the 20th century painter Antanas Žmuidzinavičius is included as one of the most outstanding representatives of realistic painting. He studied art in Warsaw (Poland), several private academies in Paris (France), continued his creative practice in Western European capitals. A. Žmuidzinavičius remained faithful to the realistic school of painting. Poetic interpretation of nature, lyricism, colourful improvisations – these are perhaps the most important features of A.Žmuidzinavičius’ paintings.
